The Stevenson Memorial Hospital (SMH) is seeking interested candidates to apply for a position on its volunteer Board of Directors. The Board is responsible for the hospital’s governance. The Corporation is seeking to elect four (4) members from the hospital’s catchment area at the hospital’s Annual General Meeting scheduled for June 14, 2007. Members elected to the Board shall serve a term of three years.

As a Board member, your duties will expect you to make decisions in the best interest of the hospital Corporation; adhere to the hospital’s Mission, Vision and Values; work positively and respectfully as a member of the team with other Directors and with management; and respect and abide by Board decisions.

Among other responsibilities, the Board of Directors is responsible to establish and review the hospital’s Strategic Plan to meet the needs of the community, monitor compliance with applicable legislation, establish policies, appoint/reappoint medical staff, ensure quality of care for patients, and approve the hospital’s annual budget.

Prospective Directors require a commitment to the hospital and community and should be aware of issues facing the hospital, the health care system, and the Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) environment.

As outlined in Section 3.4 of the Corporation Bylaws, a Corporation member can allow their name to stand for election to the Board of Directors if an appropriately signed declaration is received by the Corporate Secretary at least thirty (30) days prior to the date of the meeting (by Tuesday, May 15, 2007).
