Mask Policy Update

[New Tecumseth, ON - June 27, 2023] Effective today, SMH is lowering masking requirements for staff, patients and visitors. These changes are being implemented based on recent guidance from provincial experts, and from the COVID-19 Community Risk Assessment posted by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, which remains at a low level.

Masks are now optional for staff, physicians, patients, visitors and contractors in the following areas:

  • Public/common spaces in the hospital including the cafeteria, nursing stations, staff lounges and hallways.
  • Any waiting areas where patients are not present.

Masks remain mandatory for staff, physicians, patients, visitors and contractors in the following areas:

  • While providing direct care or in direct/prolonged patient contact (inpatient and outpatient areas).
  • In waiting areas where patients are present (i.e. Emergency Department, Diagnostic Imaging, Outpatient Clinics, Labour & Delivery triage etc.)

SMH is a mask-friendly, inclusive environment and anyone should be treated the same regardless of their choice to wear a mask.

SMH thanks the public for the adherence to COVID-19 policies and procedures while at the hospital.
