SMH staff taking part in infection prevention measures

[New Tecumseth, ON – October 16, 2023] It’s National Infection Prevention and Control Week and Stevenson Memorial Hospital (SMH) staff, physicians and volunteers are taking part in its annual Flu Vaccine Clinic facilitated by their Occupational Health & Safety Team. As part of the Clinic, COVID-19 vaccines are also available for hospital staff.

“It’s important to us that our staff have access to these vaccines to ensure that they are protecting themselves against the spread of viruses that are prevalent this time of year,” says Julia Mullen, VP Clinical and Chief Nursing Executive, SMH. “We want everyone to have protection against viruses, especially our staff so they can continue to provide excellent care to our patients and ensure that their families, our community and our most vulnerable patients remain safe.”

Additional infection prevention and safety measures at the hospital continue to be the requirement of wearing masks in most areas of the hospital, including waiting rooms and during patient care interactions with staff and physicians. Hand sanitation is also required at the main entrance as well as for visitors upon entering and leaving a patient’s room.

As of October 30, 2023, flu vaccines are available for the public at participating pharmacies, through primary care providers (family doctor or nurse practitioner) or local public health clinic.
