Simcoe-Grey MPP Jim Wilson is always happy to recognize his area's local hospitals. Today, he rose in the Legislature to congratulate Stevenson Memorial Hospital in Alliston for having been featured recently in the Canadian Business Journal, a top Canadian publication.
"This distinguished recognition by the famed business journal is acknowledgement of the hospital's tremendous commitment to the safety and well being of the patients they serve," said Wilson. "It also speaks to the tremendous team of physicians, nurses, staff, volunteers and board members who work tirelessly to make it all possible."
Wilson was incredibly proud to hear that the national magazine would be featuring his hometown hospital. The journal praises the great work being done at Stevenson Memorial, noting a 100 percent patient satisfaction rate in the birthing unit, acknowledgement of 'Exemplary Standing' by Accreditation Canada and Ministry of Health recognition for high achievement when it comes to wait times in the emergency department.
"Mr. Speaker, you may not know, but this hospital was built nearly 50 years ago to accommodate 7000 emergency visits per year. This year it will exceed 30,000 visits. The hospital is literally bursting at the seams," said Wilson. "To work within their budget and provide such high quality care and to do it well is an impressive accomplishment."
"As MPP for Simcoe-Grey, I am tremendously grateful to the people at our local hospital and I look forward to moving ahead with the much needed expansion of this healthcare facility."
Wilson continues to make both the Alliston and Collingwood Hospital his top priority and is devoted to the construction of new hospitals in both communities. In light of the recent Liberal scandals, he is concerned that it may take a change in government to get the job done.
