Inpatient and Outpatient Services

"The Little Hospital That Can and Does." That's what Stevenson Memorial has been called because of it's ability to deliver health care excellence to the community.

Acute Care
The hospital has a 32-bed Acute Care (Medical and Surgical) Unit. Here, patients who need to stay in the hospital are cared for by a skilled and caring staff. Below is a list of items one should bring should you need to stay in the hospital:

  • Housecoat/Robe and slippers
  • Toothbrush, toothpaste, comb and deodorant
  • Kleenex, soap
  • Male patients - shaving equipment
  • Female patients- sanitary napkins

Day Surgery
The need for inpatient beds has been reduced due to advances in medical technology and techniques. Approximately 92% of all surgery procedures at SMH are done on an outpatient or "day surgery" basis.

Obstetrics
The Birthing Unit at Stevenson Memorial Hospital re-opened on April 21, 2008. Every pregnancy and childbirth experience is a unique and exciting one, and we are proud to offer exceptional care close to home. Stevenson Memorial Hospital and Southlake Regional Health Centre work collaboratively as a Regional Integrated Maternal Child Program. As a Level One facility, SMH provides obstetrical care to women with low-risk, healthy pregnancies. Southlake Regional Health Centre, as a Level Two facility, supports women with moderate to high-risk pregancies.

Our highly-skilled Maternal Child team, comprised of family physicians, midwives, nurses, obstetricians, anaesthetists, volunteers and our committed support staff, work closely to provide exceptional care close to home. They are passionate about helping parents build strong, healthy families, and when the time is right, are ready to support you through your personal journey.A local group of midwives has had the privilege to practice at SMH since 1995. This allows for a full range of caregiver options for patients.

The Maternal Child Program at SMH is growing, and appointments with the Obstetrician/Gynecologists can be made by referral from another physician, a midwife or through the Well Women`s Clinic at SMH.

Mental Health
Adjacent to the hospital is the Mary McGill Community Mental Health Centre. It is funded by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care and sponsored by Stevenson Memorial Hospital. The Mary McGill serves individuals in the South Simcoe area aged 16 years and up. There is no cost incurred to clients. Group and individual counselling and psychiatric consultation and follow up services are available.
