Volunteering, a Rewarding Way of Life
How to Apply All adult volunteers are members of the SMH Auxiliary. Interested persons should fill out an application form and submit it to the Community Relations Coordinator. Thereafter, an interview will be arranged to further explore volunteer opportunities, discuss available positions and outline neccessary steps in the voluntering process. The Health Act requires everyone working or volunteering in a health facility to have a TB (Mantoux) test and all volunteers must attend an orientation. Students are also invited to become volunteers through the SMH Auxiliary's Student Volunteer Program offered through both local high schools in the fall. Interviews are arranged at the school and a special orientation session is held in the late fall. Students are encouraged to do more than the required 40 hours of service and are also invited to become members of the Auxiliary after their student service is completed. The Hospital Auxiliary The Stevenson Memorial Hospital Auxiliary serves the hospital and community by:
Volunteers are an integral and valued part of Stevenson Memorial Hospital. Approximately 180 volunteers contribute to the hospital and community by working in several departments or on various projects, providing thousands of hours of service annually to the hospital. All volunteers are Auxiliary members. In addition to operating a gift shop and Coffee Corner, volunteers provide assistance to staff whether it is by directing visitors to departments, serving refreshments to day surgery patients or assisting in clerical duties. Auxiliary members conduct a number of fundraising events throughout the year, including the winter "Tree of Lights", "Valentine Carnations", a Tag Day, a quilt raffle and an October bazaar. Proceeds go towards the purchase of capital equipment. Stevenson Memorial is also involved with the Meals on Wheels program. Working with people and helping the hospital and community is rewarding. Anyone who can give of their time is invited to become a part of the team of volunteers. Application forms are available online or can be picked up at the Information Desk in the lobby. MEDIA MONITORING VOLUNTEERUnder the supervision, and training, of the Corporate Communications Department this volunteer position will monitor and analyze all media coverage relating to Stevenson Memorial Hospital. An importatnt aspect of this role will be the commitment to produce a detailed monthly report for presentation to the Communications Committee of the Board of Directors. Requirements:
